After humanity ascended to a higher dimension, the primordial gods and divine beasts were forgotten beneath towers built from modern technology. Their followers abandoned the old forms of worship and turned to lords with powerful spiritual entities.
With no spiritual power, Meng Can belonged to the lowest rungs of society. She could barely make a living as a tower keeper, and never imagined her quiet life would be turned upside down by a sickly fox she found.
Humans aren't supposed to grow animal ears and tails, are they?!
Meng Can stared at herself in the mirror, horrified. The sickly fox, meanwhile, lounged lazily in a rocking chair, swishing its tail and showing off how many it had.
Meng Can walked over to Kang Yao. One tail curled around those flaunted fox tails and lifted them up, while another propped up the fox's chin, forcing it to meet her gaze.
But the moment their eyes met, the fox transformed into a human, slipped free of Meng Can's grasp, and wrapped her in its nine tails.
Meng Can rubbed her forehead and turned her face away helplessly. "Put some clothes on!"
