The Thirteenth Year of My Secret Crush

At the tenth-anniversary reunion after high school graduation, someone who had never attended a reunion unexpectedly showed up. The boy who had once been the center of attention had grown into a handsome, elegant man. Dressed in a refined, tailor-made suit, he smiled as he calmly dealt with everyone’s flattery and fawning. After the reunion, the crowd dispersed. Shu Yishu thought that would be the last time he ever saw Sheng Hangge. But a few days later, Sheng Hangge checked into the nursing home where Shu Yishu worked and became his patient. Just as he always had, Shu Yishu kept a proper distance between himself and Sheng Hangge. But against all odds, the two kept crossing paths again and again. After all those encounters, the distance Shu Yishu had meant to keep seemed to have become deliberate avoidance. One early autumn night not long afterward, the man leaned against the hospital bed, his dark hair falling beside his eyes. In a dejected voice, he asked, "Dr. Shu, do you... not really like me?" Shu Yishu looked at the man on the bed, so close before him and yet forever out of reach. He thought: This was the thirteenth year he had been in love with Sheng Hangge.
