Jiang Zhi, a former criminal investigation team captain, is transported to a wasteland world and becomes a lowly fifth-class citizen, forced to earn a living by disposing of corpses.
One set of coordinates, one corpse, one countdown: the job begins.
Jiang Zhi picks up her toolbox, hooks an iron hook to her belt, enters the radiation zone, and crawls into an underground passage that could collapse at any moment. She finds a corpse that hasn’t gone cold yet, drags it back, cleans it up, and dresses it in decent clothes. Some are cremated; others are buried.
People call her a cleaner.
She cleans up corpses like she’s clearing away trash.
Jiang Zhi ignores them. In this radiation-filled world, the dead really are trash. It’s just that some trash can talk.
Her ability is called Death Echo. By touching a corpse, she can hear the last sounds it left behind: this person was electrocuted, that one was buried alive, this corpse had its parts scavenged, and that one was poisoned.
Jiang Zhi cleans up three corpses. They have nothing to do with one another, yet the last sounds of all three call out her name. After looking into it, she discovers that each victim had investigated the same person: her.
Jiang Zhi starts digging, and the more she learns, the stranger things become.
The coordinates of the dead form a line, all pointing in the same direction. And before they died, all these apparently unrelated people had come into contact with the same thing: the [Are You Dead Yet? app]
[Ding! The Are You Dead Yet? app has sent you a new order.]
Jiang Zhi opens it and sees that the corpse at the coordinates is her own.
