The cat demon Ye Mi is determined to become an immortal, but the road to immortality is full of dangers. First, here's her starting lineup:

First, there's her, a cat demon with formidable magic and the ability to go wherever she pleases, from heaven to earth;

then there's the moth demon, the classmate she gets along with least, but whose magic is at least passable;

the kindhearted crab spirit, the most timid of them all and the worst at magic;

and finally, the spirit of the Matchmaking Register, punished with supervising them after filling its pages with ridiculous love stories.

Ye Mi: ...So what if I'm being dragged down by two deadweights? It's no big deal.

Then she glimpses the future and learns that a demon-hunting Daoist priest will appear one day, and that she'll give up her chance to become immortal just to date him.

Ye Mi: ...No way.

To be safe, she simply cuts out her love root with her sword, convinced that will settle things once and for all. Who knew that even a severed love root would grow back?

Ye Mi: If it grows back, I'll cut it off again.

After countless times snuffing out her love root in its infancy, the Daoist priest confessed to her.

Ye Mi fell silent, pondered for a moment, then calmly said, "Cut off a love root to prove you're sincere."
