One day, Li Mingyi came to Gotham and stood before Bella.
"Hey, do you know what you are?" In Gotham's gloomy night, the Asian girl stood up high and asked her without malice, but with little courtesy.
"I don't know, but I'm sure at least part of me is human." A gust of wind lifted Bella's hair as she silently looked at the girl, who looked just a little like her.
I came to Gotham because I found someone like me: my sister, my half-sister who shares my mother.
She was born a hybrid in two senses of the word: a Gotham orphan, whose genetic father lived in this city and was entirely human.
I felt a loneliness I could barely notice. I was different from other people, and I had no parents.
Later, I found my biological father, an exceptional yet ordinary human man. He had just started a new family, so I thought it would be inconvenient to disturb him.
She was Bella, raised in Crime Alley, a hybrid oddity in a dark city, a little bird abandoned in a corner.
Her bright blue eyes held a quiet loneliness as she watched the farces that played out in Gotham at any moment.
The two of them leaned on each other, sabotaged each other, and were held in thrall by the sorrow of their blood, spending their adolescence together in the ordinary way of normal girls.
They were too young to attend Kassel, and knew little about hybrids. Their everyday life was spent wandering around Gotham, until Batman picked them up.
A spoiler warning, too: later on, both characters have latent bloodlines surpassing S-rank. They're ordinary A-rank at first. Since both their biological fathers are human, their mothers must have incredibly powerful backstories, so they can only be the Black King.
Updates whenever inspiration strikes. I do want to finish it. Mainly, I really want to recommend stories, so I made an account to organize and recommend the Batman fanfiction I like. There are lots of them, and they're all female-lead stories. I especially like reading power fantasies.
