When Chun Yu was eighteen, her drunken father beat her on the street. Sticky, warm blood slid from her temple, and as her consciousness began to fade, a pair of strong hands caught her swaying body.
Through the crimson haze, she saw Yu Qingyan.
She knew he was a young master from Jingzhou, born into an illustrious family and holding a position of power. He was someone you didn't want to cross.
On the day Yu Qingyan was leaving, she gave her father sleeping pills, then stood in the pouring rain to stop his car and begged him, "Can you take me with you?"
Through the window, the man glanced up, nonchalant. "Why?"
Soaked by the storm, Chun Yu looked up at him with deer-like eyes, wet and shining. "I want to repay you."

Later, the Yu family fell on hard times. His old friends avoided Yu Qingyan as if he had the plague, and Chun Yu did the same, submitting an application to study abroad.
When he found out, Yu Qingyan stared at the girl before him, no longer so innocent. "This is how you repay me?"
Chun Yu fell silent for a long moment, then managed only an apology.
He flew into a rage. "Take your things and get out! Don't let me see you again!"

Three years later, he changed his name and started from nothing, making waves in the business world. She knew he hated her to the core and had no intention of crossing paths with him again, but one day she accidentally wandered into his hotel suite.
The room was dim.
A bottle lay toppled on the table. The man lounged on the sofa, two buttons of his shirt undone. He lifted his eyes to her, revealing a trace of disgust.
"Sorry. I'll leave now." Chun Yu lowered her eyes and apologized. Just as she turned, a strong, lean arm pulled her into its owner's embrace.
"Did you really never think of me, not even once?" he asked through clenched teeth.
Chun Yu didn't know how to answer. After a long silence, the man behind her lowered his head, and a tear fell onto her neck. His voice was hoarse and bitter. "It's all right if you didn't think of me. It's all right if you don't love me."
"Chun Yu, use me one more time."
Spring Rain on Chun Island
"He taught her boxing. He taught her to stand up to her father and to hold her head high, to cross the darkness and walk into the light. He gave her the ability to protect herself and the ambition to climb higher, and showed her the world's splendor and corruption. But he couldn't teach her how to love someone with all her heart."
