be like: As an investigator, I keep switching between undercover cop and outlaw
After a “little” mishap during his final investigation assignment, the academy medical department judged Mifagawa to have permanent damage to his sanity, forcing him to abandon his chance to explore further into the world's hidden truths. Once he got his diploma and his Special Grade Investigator certificate, he was advised to go home, achieving the great feat of #graduating straight into unemployment#.
Mifagawa: Not happy :-(
The unjustly dismissed investigator let out an unwilling but helpless sigh.
After reluctantly returning to his hometown, he investigated his mother's whereabouts while worrying about his future. He didn't care whether he lived or died, but his only family, his grandfather, was unusually determined to have him take the civil service exam.
Mifagawa: ...Sure, why not.
So, on a sunny morning, he signed up for the police recruitment exam, thinking, “There's no harm in trying. If I pass, finding a job will be easy. If I fail, I'll try something else.” By the way, does being an international student make it easier to get through the interview?
And he actually passed!
He thought his withdrawn, cold manner, preserved by his low SAN, would put most people his age off. Who knew five stubborn gorillas would really break through his gloomy state of mind, take his hand, and lead him back into the gentle sunlight? His peaceful retirement routine of reading and slacking off was gone for good, and the dynamic among the six of them grew increasingly bizarre:
“Let's sneak out over the wall for drinks tomorrow night. What's the plan?”
“Matsuda and I will find a way to distract the patrol instructors. Little Morofushi and Little Furuya will make it look like everyone's still in the dorm. The class rep will plan the route and coordinate everything. Mifagawa, you can do what you did last time. Any problems with that?”
“Of course not... What about Mifagawa?”
By “what you did last time,” he meant the last time and the time before, when they snuck out in the middle of the night to have fun, then found the dorm doors locked when they got back. Mifagawa had pulled off a complete [lockpicking](opening a lock with wire) and [infiltration](evading the instructors), smuggling all six of them back into the dorm. He even had the decency to get up early the next morning and delete their tracks from the security room.
Yeah, right up my alley. Mifagawa gave a thumbs-up.
And so, the six gorillas reached perfect agreement.
◎ There is a Lovecraftian Mythos fix-it element.
◎ Lovecraftian daily life. Not much of it at the police academy, but commonplace once the undercover work begins.
◎ The protagonist is mentally unstable. His perspective on and opinions of those around him differ from those of a normal person, and his values fall somewhere between good and evil. Please don't read if that's a problem.
◎ Many original elements, plenty of OOC, and no rigorous research. Please just read for fun. I apologize in advance if anything is jarring.
◎ No CP. Mainly comedy and close friendships between classmates; later, there will be close interactions with the good guys.
◎ I'll add more if anything comes up. That's all for now. Enjoy!
Theme: Let's all do our part to care for our classmates' mental health

App99, that is indeed not an ordinary person (not even under normal circumstances anymore)
