As an ordinary native of the Northeast, my childhood and the end of industrialization in the Northeast shared the same fate. When I suddenly wanted to write something down, the neighborhood of the alloy factory where I lived as a child immediately came to mind. Now it is desolate, dilapidated, and withered, but it was once lively, joyful, full of hope, and full of warm popularity. The 1990s was an era of rapid development, but it was also the beginning of a catastrophe in the Northeast. For several small cities where the industrial development of the Northeast was the main lifeline, changes in lifestyles made people everywhere panic. They are used to going to the factory as soon as they wake up, eating in the factory cafeteria after get off work, picking up their children from the factory-affiliated kindergarten or school if they have children, and returning home to a small house in a certain building in the family area. The clothes they wear are made of fabrics from the textile factory affiliated to the factory, and the colors are not very rich. Even the children's notebooks are products of the paper factory. People in factory districts have long been accustomed to this slow pace of life. When the dream of collectivism is shattered, the process of picking out a little bit becomes particularly difficult. Naturally, many people could not adapt, and personal tragedies arose. That's where my story comes from. The story is divided into two timelines, unfolding from the perspectives of different characters. 1. In the 1990s, five laid-off workers who had encountered setbacks in their lives struggled in trouble and finally made a terrible decision, which was also the beginning of tragedy. 2. In 1999 The newly appointed trainee police officer Wang Yu and the forensic doctor Zhao Yue met during the investigation of the old corpse case at the Cultural Palace. The strange situation prevented them from confirming the motive of death. After layer by layer and meticulous investigation, all that was left was a sigh. But fortunately, amid all the desolation, their love gradually took root and sprouted, becoming a new hope in the increasingly desolate old Northeastern city.
