The "first time" Xia Enran met Jiang Lingfeng, she stumbled upon him being cornered and berated in the hospital stairwell.

While eavesdropping, Xia Enran learned that Jiang Lingfeng was the half-brother of Xi Huan, the boy she had rescued from the sea a few days earlier. He had rushed all the way back from the United States, but wasn't allowed to see his brother. Xi Huan's uncle even pointed at him and told him to get back to America.

Later, Xia Enran spotted Jiang Lingfeng through the window of Xi Huan's hospital room. He was standing downstairs in the rain, gazing toward Xi Huan's room and refusing to leave. Xia Enran hurried down with an umbrella. But as she held it over the boy, she saw a face she knew all too well and froze in place. He looked just like her childhood friend Xi Xun, who had left without a word all those years ago.

The two, reunited after so many years, both had tears in their eyes. But when Xia Enran tentatively asked if he was Xi Xun, he denied it immediately, for reasons he couldn't explain.

Xi Xun was once the beloved young heir of the Xi Group, born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He was optimistic and cheerful, knew nothing of life's hardships, and had Xia Enran, the childhood friend he loved, by his side.

But an unexpected kidnapping when he was ten shattered his happy life and left his half-brother suffering from depression. He was forced to leave without saying goodbye to his childhood friend, change his name to Jiang Lingfeng, and flee to America with his mother.

After Xi Xun left, Xia Enran also moved to America because of her father's job. But he was in Seattle and she was in San Francisco, and they never saw each other again.

When Xia Enran turned seventeen, after enduring school bullying and harm from her family, her parents divorced and she returned to her hometown, Fengle Island. By chance, she rescued Xi Xun's brother, Xi Huan, who was trying to end his life by the sea. Meanwhile, Xi Xun returned to Fengle Island after his friend Jiang Jingtian called him repeatedly in the middle of the night.

After Xia Enran learned that Jiang Lingfeng was Xi Xun, she cornered him in the stairwell and stared straight at him. "If you've really forgotten me, then let's get to know each other all over again."

But the boy only replied dismissively, "Who do you think you are?" Yet despite his stubborn words, his tears fell before Xia Enran's did.

And so the two began a game of pursuit and escape.
