Seeking advance readers: *After Being Jilted in 1988, I Became a Tycoon*
Story blurb:
Her name is Tu Fei, and she’s both loyal and politically progressive. She volunteered to join the army and fought in the South Seas campaign. After returning wounded, she was demobilized and transferred to civilian work.
Though she used to be a reconnaissance soldier, she was assigned to a police station, where the transfer recommendation read: “We recommend clerical work.”
She’s a by-the-book records clerk; a “mediocre forensic examiner” who almost touched a corpse without gloves; a police officer with a driver’s license and excellent wilderness survival skills... They say that Sister Fei in the archives is just as hard to mess with as the people in the morgue.
Her work in the archives is going wonderfully, but she still wants to work in the field. There’s a lot she needs to overcome to reach that goal.
But that’s all right. She’s Tu Fei.
She has a lover, family, and confidants to accompany her on the road to her dreams.
She fears nothing and can do anything.
All she wants is to recover her health and get out in the field. She has no plans to marry.
But on her very first day at work, she meets an intellectual in the middle of a group brawl. He’s ruthless and gorgeous. She rescues him, and scares him off too.
They meet again while both are up to no good: one is secretly stewing meat, the other is repairing watches and reselling them at a profit. They each have dirt on the other, and for the first time they tell each other their names, both fake.
The third time they meet, Comrade Tu realizes they have a connection after all. Neither of them is doing anything good this time, either. To keep this gorgeous intellectual from being sent down to the countryside, they decide to get married.
After the wedding, they steal books, go to the black market, and stockpile food. They take unconventional routes to get justice, keep getting into trouble, and work together seamlessly.
Pairing: idealistic policewoman vs. slacker freeloader and street hustler (physicist)
P.S. The heroine is fundamentally righteous, but flexible and not bound by convention. She sticks to her principles and isn’t greedy. Everything she does is for survival.
The hero is an intellectual whose ideals have crumbled. He engages in speculation and profiteering early on, then becomes a physicist.
Strong woman, weaker man; he keeps house. He’s a young, handsome “male fox spirit,” and he’s head over heels for her.
No abusive antagonists, no golden finger. The main plot follows her career, with criminal investigation, love and marriage, everyday family life, period details, food, an ensemble cast, and women’s strength.

*After Being Jilted in 1988, I Became a Tycoon*
In 1988, Liao Chuchu loses her parents and takes a three-day train ride to find her fiancé and marry him.
When she arrives, she discovers that they live in different worlds.
He comes from a prestigious family, while she has no family at all. He graduated from university, while she only finished middle school. He’s an excellent military doctor, while she can’t do a thing.
He says he’ll help her study and find a job, and let her stay with his family for now...
He can help her with everything except marrying her.
Cold treatment, wariness, and being dependent on someone else’s hospitality: Liao Chuchu thinks she can put up with it for the sake of her future.
But she misjudges herself.
On her third day there, at a banquet, his cousin introduces her to a group of promising young men and women. They smile at her with unmistakable disdain.
“Chuchu? What a pitiful name.”
“Why not just give her some money and send her on her way? Why keep her in the house?”
“Family background, education, perspective... and genes. Won’t her mother’s genes affect the children? No one here would marry an illiterate country girl.”
For the first time, Liao Chuchu discovers she has a talent for throwing a tantrum and hurling insults.
She gives every man there a sharp, livestock-inspecting look, then smiles. “I understand. It’s just like breeding animals. A better breed really does produce healthier offspring.”
.
Liao Chuchu leaves.
She carries dishes, handles the most difficult customers, and sets up a stall in the busiest places. She uses every means at her disposal to survive!
Only then does she realize she isn’t gentle and well-behaved at all. She’s fierce, bold, and full of schemes... Living alone isn’t hard at all!
Later, she opens shops and factories and becomes wealthy beyond measure. Her achievements soon surpass those of the promising young people from back then.
She has a different answer now to the judgment they made about her name.
Not pitiful Chuchu. She’s an extraordinary Chuchu.
Theme: In a dazzling age, devote your life to great ideals. Cherish peace, care for demobilized veterans, and support feminism.
