Raising Horses in the Northern Song Dynasty

The moment Shen Fuwei opened her eyes, she found herself in the Northern Song dynasty.

Her father was dead, her mother was seriously ill, her brother was missing, and her younger sister was lazy.

Their home was bare, and they were buried in debt...

Though things were disastrous from the start, in her previous life she'd been a veterinary livestock doctor at a large horse-breeding farm in the northwest, as well as a rider and horse trainer.

And Qinzhou, where she found herself, was a major horse-trading center during the Northern Song dynasty.

The Northern Song court was short on warhorses, and polo was all the rage. Good horses were extremely expensive there.

So Shen Fuwei decided to start a business: breeding horses.

She worked at the horse market, treated sick horses, bought sick ones for a bargain, bred famous steeds, and used horse manure to build greenhouse gardens...

Before long, she became Qinzhou's top horse dealer.

The famous steeds she bred were worth a fortune and became the most coveted luxury goods.

When they were sent to Bianjing, the aristocratic young men and the princes fought over them. Even the emperor came to her horse farm in person to get one.

In just a few years, she went from commoner to imperial merchant, taking on a contract to raise a hundred thousand horses for the royal stables.

Later, Shen Fuwei even donated over ten thousand high-quality warhorses. She was made a county princess and leaped straight up the social ladder.
