Sixty years ago, a large-scale biological mutation shattered the balance of human society. The resulting chaos reshaped the continents.
Humanity built towering walls, enclosing itself in the center of the continent.
The mutated creatures shut out in the wilderness lingered day after day, eyeing the flesh and blood within the walls.
Those inside the walls called them wild beasts.
Ye Hezhou was born in a small border city. The outermost wall stretched for tens of thousands of kilometers. It cost a fortune to build, yet was the most rudimentary, and wild beasts crossed the border to attack people from time to time.
Those injured by wild beasts had a chance of becoming ability users, who suffered severe discrimination.
Not everyone qualified to enter the second wall and live somewhere better and safer.
The exorbitant travel costs stopped most ordinary people. Ability users might have a chance to earn enough money, but they would always be barred from entry.
They did not have full civil rights.
However, the Central Region welcomed the best among recent graduates. Anyone who passed the selection process could be brought inside the walls and recruited by various factions.
Ye Hezhou's mother had been preparing for this since she was a child.
She spent everything the family had and worked herself to the bone.
What she didn't know was that her daughter had become an ability user.
And had kept it secret until now.
Mother: I want you to pass the selection process and go to the Central Region.
Ye Hezhou (decisively): Although the Central Region doesn't recruit ability users, I'll do my best.
Mother: I want you to kill your lover.
Ye Hezhou (hesitating): Maybe there's another way to handle this. There's no need to take things this far...
Mother: I want you to offer yourself up and fulfill my wish.
Ye Hezhou (refusing): I belong to myself. Even as my mother, you have no right to make such a demand.
P.S.
1. The setting is something like cyberpunk, wasteland, and mutation. The worldbuilding is entirely my own.
2. Main plot, not a power fantasy, and there is a male lead.
3. Taking a break to organize the outline. Once it's done, I'll try to update daily.
Theme: What is it that you truly want?
