The Wedding Ritual

After four years of marriage, Yan Yue still hasn’t gotten pregnant.

Her parents are frantic and order her to take her husband, Xu Hongyuan, back to the village to drive away evil spirits and pray for a child.

Yan Yue knows the village’s rules. If Xu Hongyuan goes back with her, he’ll never come out alive.

So, as she has every year, she makes an excuse to put it off.

The next day, she sees a hotel check-in text on Xu Hongyuan’s phone, showing that he and a female intern stayed there together.

When Xu Hongyuan gets home from work, she smiles and suggests:

"Let’s spend the Mid-Autumn Festival at my place this year. Mom says she misses me."
