Cang Su is a human soul who is repeatedly caught in the cycle of reincarnation.
After returning as a soul following one death, she is forcibly taken back to the palace by the Ghost King and made to marry him.
**
At first, the Ghost King has his way with her in everything, leaving Cang Su no room to resist.
Before long, Cang Su keenly senses that the Ghost King is playing her.
She figures the Ghost King responds to softness, not force, and says with a sweet voice and a hard heart, "When you smile, my heart starts beating for you."
From then on, her days by the Ghost King's side grow more comfortable with each passing day. Her sweet words have him obeying her every command. She's a genius, really.
So Cang Su calmly plots her escape. She tries once, then twice, and fails both times.
The Ghost King barely does a thing to her. In fact, he is even willing to make her the Ghost King in his place if that will keep her by his side.
Cang Su doesn't care how the Ghost King loves her. She carefully prepares to "die" for a third time.
This time, she weeps and, with a broken heart, demands of him:
"So all your schemes to make me stay were just because I was an ingredient in her medicine!"
"Now that the time is right, you're going to kill me to revive the person you truly love, aren't you?"
Cang Su really does die, but not for anyone. She dies in a sacrifice to Heaven.
Cang Su's human-soul body vanishes from the world, but the divine soul within her remains.
In the Ghost Realm, she watches Dongfang Yueqing, utterly dejected, looking as if her death has made him much older.
She hears him mumble over and over, "At the edge of the blue sea, I can no longer see Su Su."
The waves of the blue sea nourish the millet, so she is called Cang Su.
At the edge of the blue sea, he can no longer see Su Su, so she is called Su Su.
Cang Su: "Huh? So he really does love me."
