Mies prides himself on having a severe people-pleasing personality.
For example, he never says no to victory. Whenever a shiny golden trophy is within reach, he kisses it. He always welcomes honors with open arms, and in daily life he accepts trophies of every size. His motto is, "Winning trophies is the number one productive force."
In life, the champions have beaten him a thousand times, but he still treats them like his first love.
When an opponent calls him a drunk, Mies only says, "Get lost." When his coach tells him that if he won't follow orders, he can pack his bags and leave the team, Mies merely lowers his lashes innocently and says, "You get lost too."
Only then does he realize that he really is a people-pleaser, so Mies adds, "I didn't mean to say there's anything wrong with my opponents or my coach."
"Those two 'get losts' cancel each other out."
The media call him too self-centered because on the pitch, Mies is a real chameleon, willing to do anything for a win.
Shoot, pass, defend, deliberately trip someone, verbally attack the opposition to disrupt their judgment, feint, and even ruthlessly steal the ball from a teammate's feet before celebrating passionately on the pitch!
When the media angrily confront him after a match, Mies is no longer the space cadet he was before kickoff. His face darkens with displeasure. "I'm not obligated to pass the ball to anyone. Don't make me slap you during such a happy moment."
After making his threat, his people-pleasing side kicks in again, and he tries to save face. "Haha, that's just my disclaimer before a match."
"Prejudice is a mountain in people's hearts. When have my teammates and I ever been at odds?"
Reporter: "..."
Holy crap... He's such a textbook example of a people-pleaser!
Bro, could you stop making people-pleasing your whole personality? Sure.
Mies also thinks he has severe separation anxiety.
For example, if he goes a day without seeing his trophies, his heart aches. If the photo of him holding up a trophy disappears from his wallet, he instantly turns into a vicious villain and curses everyone out until the photo is returned, at which point he calms down a little. And if anyone lets him down on the pitch and makes him lose a match, Mies will write their name furiously in his grudge notebook to soothe his hurt feelings!
"October 3, sunny. We played Fiorentina today. I ate Pippo's cookies, and he accused me of stealing his luck. Heh, who cares about his luck? I only scored a hat trick. (Just kidding, Pippo. You really shouldn't let people find out about this!) We're coming for the Serie A title!"
"November 15. We flew to Spain to play Real Madrid. One of their players grabbed my shirt when he faced me, making me fall and putting me out for a week. Has Real Madrid really sunk to such low tactics? I'm taking them home and making them drink charm water. (It's fine, I'll smash the Virgin Mary statue myself and sit on Jesus.)"
Reporter: "..."
There's so much self-preservation in those parentheses, bro. Okay, now we believe you have a people-pleasing personality.
Mies also has paranoid delusions so severe they're practically terminal.
When Inzaghi confesses to him, Mies first smashes every surveillance device in the room, then soaks every electronic device that could record audio in alcohol. Finally, he draws the curtains and asks suspiciously, "Why are you confessing to me, Inzaghi? Are you trying to ruin my football career?!"
He goes berserk. "Just because we're rivals, you have to pull a move that hurts me a thousand times while hurting yourself eight hundred? God, I never thought my lifelong reputation would be brought down by a trick like this!"
"How devious! So devious! I'll decide for myself whether this is a confession or a suicide attack!"
Haha, Mies calls Inzaghi sinister and vicious to his face, but behind everyone's backs, the two start a secret locker-room romance. At home, they stage melodramatic romantic dramas every day, loving each other to the point of heartbreak and unable to bear being apart. Their teammates think they can't stand each other and try to mediate every day, worrying themselves bald.
It isn't until the truth comes out that their teammates finally realize something is off!
"If you really hated each other, would you passionately celebrate and kiss each other after scoring on the pitch? Would you fill your diaries with each other's names? Would you mock each other to your faces but secretly bail each other out?"
They pick up their round, red clown noses from the floor and manage a tired smile.
"So... we're part of your play too?"
Mies: "You're very slow on the uptake."
He tries to smooth things over. "A good mindset determines a player's whole life. Go work things out for yourselves."
Teammates: "..."
Who the hell said he had a people-pleasing personality, separation anxiety, and paranoid delusions?!
Now I think I've got them... (Disclaimer: even so, I'll indulge him.)
Reader's Guide:
The key thing to know is that this is an absurdist comedy with no regard for logic, and the story goes through plenty of dramatic ups and downs, so be prepared.
1. He's a Bayern youth product. Bayern, Inter, Milan, Liverpool (after taking revenge in Athens), then Bayern again. His national teams are Germany and Spain. He ultimately chooses Germany, but spends ages seventeen to eighteen in Spain. Yes, there are two national teams (with a heavy sigh).
A million-word epic. The match schedule moves fast, but the plot is a slow burn.
Each of the four teams has a very different flavor. Enjoying one doesn't mean you'll enjoy the next, so proceed with caution. The Inter arc has no romance at all; all the romantic tension is in the Liverpool arc, which you can jump straight to.
2. The CP is Inzaghi, one-on-one, an enemies-to-lovers couple. The romance isn't a major focus, taking up about a third of the story. They love football more than they love each other.
3. Mies is the amnesiac reincarnation of Dionysus, the god of wine. He has no memories of his past life, but retains Dionysus's powers. He can meet different players in a tavern. This is just a setting detail and doesn't involve Greek mythology.
4. Chapter comments are open. Come chat with me! (Cuddles.)
Comments that use insulting names for the protagonist or any other character will be deleted. If you feel uncomfortable, please leave in time. Thank you so much.
Drinking won't affect Mies's health!
