In the summer of 2008, "Beijing Welcomes You" played in every street and alley. Twenty-three-year-old Cheng Yanqing arrived in Zhounan County from a village on the outskirts of Beijing, suitcase in hand, to begin a two-year work assignment. As arranged by her company, she shared a home with a sixteen-year-old girl named Zhou Yanfeng.
Two years later, Zhou Yanfeng got into university, and Cheng Yanqing returned to headquarters. Not long after, an accident severed contact between them.
In the summer of 2023, work took Zhou Yanfeng to Copenhagen, Denmark, for a two-month overseas technical support assignment. On the last day of her first month, she ran into Cheng Yanqing at Superkilen Park, someone she hadn't seen in fifteen years. The way Cheng Yanqing stood lost in thought against a corner wall matched the blurry, pixelated photo on Zhou Yanfeng's phone.
Fifteen years is a long time, long enough for the world to change beyond recognition. And yet fifteen years is short, no more than the blink of an eye in the life of a feeling.
A realistic story, with plenty of both truth and fiction.
About growing up, supporting one another, redemption, feelings, time...
The blurb is dated September 1, 2024. Come and taste a bottle of fifteen-year-old vintage.
