Hounded by his dead junior schoolmate, who wants to bind him in a ghost marriage, Jiang Xun decides to follow someone's advice and worship a 'ghost god,' letting the ghost marry another ghost.
Everything goes smoothly.
But does it really?
The 'himself' in his portrait grows stranger by the day. On nights when he falls asleep alone, a gentle goodnight comes from beside his bed. In his dreams, the suona playing at the wedding draws ever closer. All of it reminds him:
You can't escape.
The ghost god he worships also grows more and more unruly. Its gaze on him is everywhere, far beyond what Jiang Xun can stand.
The bed is always cold. There are always ghosts watching him on the road. The house is always a mess.
Jiang Xun goes to seek help from a celestial master.
But the master says, "Choose one. Choose one of them."
Resigned to his fate, he climbs into his junior schoolmate's wedding sedan. A sinister ghostly shadow embraces him from behind and whispers in his ear, "You'd rather marry him?"
Why? Is he better than me?
But he won't secretly climb into your bed in the middle of the night, hold you, and coax you to sleep. He won't shield you from lecherous stares in a crowd. He won't help you with the housework...
Stay with me.
Stay with me.
The ghost god pleads in its heart.
Outside the sedan, the suona plays. Inside the cramped, narrow sedan, a man and a ghost cling tightly to each other.
Yet neither can feel the other's warmth.
Jiang Xun is bewildered. "But I can't tell you apart. The two of you, I can't tell you apart."
