[My cold has gotten worse, so the update scheduled for the early hours of the morning is postponed until tomorrow night.]
After losing to Karasuno, Oikawa couldn't stand the atmosphere on the team and left without saying a word.
He had no idea where he'd wandered off to. He sat down by the road and closed his eyes to think about life.
Then faint voices drifted to his ears on the wind.
"Aoba Johsai lost, Sayaka. Aren't you sad? The player you like looks really upset."
"I'm not sad," replied another, gentle voice.
Everywhere he went, people were talking about Aoba Johsai's loss. Oikawa covered his ears, not wanting to hear it, but he couldn't help wondering how the girl who said she wasn't sad would answer.
Haneda Sayaka pinched her friend's cheek and explained with a smile, "If it's Oikawa-kun, I won't be sad."
"Huh? Why not?"
Oikawa, eavesdropping nearby, really wanted to know the answer to that question, too.
Sayaka thought for a moment. "There's no reason. He's Oikawa-kun."
"Because it's him, I know it'll be okay. He'll get back on his feet, and then, no matter who he's up against, he'll beat them."
"That's just who Oikawa-kun is."
Oikawa hadn't expected to hear that conversation. His ears turned bright red in an instant. The voices faded into the distance, but the girl's words kept repeating in his head.
"If it's Oikawa-kun..."

Haneda Sayaka hadn't expected to see the dejected Oikawa-kun after the match so close to home, either.
He looked so downcast. Since he was the boy she liked, she didn't mind saying a few words to encourage him.
And she really did mean what she'd said. She'd been following Oikawa-kun for a long time, but there were always lots of girls around the Great King. Once she realized that, she decided to give up and admire him from afar.
She never expected that one morning, after waking up and opening the door, she'd see Oikawa-kun there, someone who had no business showing up at her house.
The big boy flashed her a smile and held out a ticket, inviting her with utmost sincerity. "Haneda-san, may I invite you to watch my next match?"
Sayaka hesitated for a long time, but in the end she took the ticket and left him with a seemingly ambiguous reply.
"If it's Oikawa-kun, then sure."

Does that mean Oikawa-kun can do anything?
Including falling for Sayaka and becoming her boyfriend?
◆ Volleyball-only story, pairing Oikawa the Great King, 1v1 short, sweet romance.
◆ The cover isn't Sayaka's character design. It's a design used by the artist with permission from the cover designer, and isn't the only one. (The current cover is a photo of the Great King and Sayaka together. The cover we wanted isn't ready yet qwq.)
◆ The story takes place after the Spring High preliminaries final and after Oikawa goes to Argentina. The plot has been heavily altered.
◆ OOC warning!!! Lots of headcanon!!!
◆ As always, thanks for reading =w=
Theme: Failure isn't scary. What's scary is never getting back up.
