Pei Jingmo's Arena team has broken up yet again.
He'd lost count of how many teammates had gone AFK after losing their romantic partners in the game.
Pei Jingmo: Love only slows down your sword! Can't you be like me and shut your heart off?
After learning his lesson the hard way, Pei Jingmo decided to go all in: he'd find a romantic partner of his own to play Arena with. As long as he didn't lose his partner, this teammate would stick around.
But just before the new season began, Pei Jingmo asked his partner Beichen to push for a higher rank together. The other man replied:
"Sorry, but I have a Xuan Su healer bound to me, and his class works better with mine. I'm teaming up with him next season."
Pei Jingmo: ...
Pei Jingmo: ?
Pei Jingmo: A bound healer? What's that supposed to be? That's a thing?
Beichen: Want me to have my bound healer play your account? He's pretty good with Hua Shan, and Hua Shan is strong this season. He can help you climb a few ranks.
Pei Jingmo, a laid-back Hua Shan player who doesn't do ranked matches because he's too lazy, and a genuine first-generation Xuan Su legend: ? Say that one more time, you bastard?
The next day, a group of longtime players were shocked to see ancient legends who'd been gone for six or seven years returning one after another and diligently doing their daily quests.
Don't ask. They're back to see an iron tree bloom, to watch someone who'd shut off his heart finally fall in love for the first time.
Pei Jingmo: I #￥%￥%... Enough talk. See you in the Arena!
In the final match that would get him to 2,500 in the new season, he ran into his partner Beichen on the opposing team. Xie Wen, the Tai Xu teammate who'd only recently returned alongside Pei Jingmo, took Beichen down with a single slash.
Xie Wen wiped his long sword and tossed out, "That's it?"
He glanced at the opposing team. "Beichen's no good. He's nowhere near as good as me."
"Who's that healer? Not even a tenth as good as you."
"You'd be willing to be someone's partner when they're this lousy, but you wouldn't accept me back then?"
Pei Jingmo was speechless. All he said was, "That's his bound healer."
"Bound healer?" Xie Wen seemed quite interested in the term. "What about you? Whose bound healer are you?"
1. Xie Wen is the official love interest.
2. Both are each other's first and only; happy ending.
3. A slight change of love interest.
4. The game setting follows the previous book, but you can read this one on its own.
5. A keyboard-based online game story; the game content won't take up too much space.
