Zhe Qiu has been feeling troubled lately.

He has noticed that a group of outsiders seem to have arrived in the world he lives in. They keep showing up in all sorts of places and doing all kinds of bizarre things.

They charge into monster-hunting sites officially discovered only recently, brandishing all kinds of strange weapons. They stay up late dancing and flying across the city sky. They suddenly turn into statues halfway down the street or simply vanish. And sometimes, on a perfectly clear, sunny day, they all put on identical pairs of underwear and streak through the city at will.

Zhe Qiu: "..."

This world has really gone insane.

Later, he learned that these people called themselves "players," and that his world was nothing more than a huge amusement park built for their entertainment. He himself was just one of the thoroughly ordinary "background NPCs" they talked about.

After having his hard-earned monsters snatched and killed, and the magical plants he discovered stolen and dug up countless times, Zhe Qiu was so broke he could barely afford food. At last, he snapped.

With a knife in hand and an expressionless face, he stepped into the supposedly most terrifying and impossible-to-clear monster lair in history.

So you're players, huh? You like kill-stealing, huh?

Mess with him, and you're all gonna die. ^^

Nightmare City is a full-dive game that has recently taken the world by storm.

It offers an incredible degree of freedom and a wide variety of gameplay. Its NPCs are remarkably intelligent, and its powerful engine is more realistic than any other game on the market.

But the game is equally famous for its deranged mechanic: once a monster-hunting site has been cleared, it can never be opened again.

In short, if you play this game, you have to fight over every resource.

So on launch day, hordes of players flooded in and eagerly explored all the different ways to play in this game world.

They discovered a powerful NPC from the Monster Hunting Association who was hard to track down and strikingly handsome, and who often appeared in dungeons of varying difficulty.

Excited players tried one after another to run into this mysterious NPC who seemed so different from the rest, only to find three glaring tags above his head: [Cannot Be Inspected], [Cannot Be Recruited], and [Cannot Be Killed].

Just like countless ordinary background NPCs, many of whom didn't even have names, he was no fun at all.

After kindly naming this useless pretty-boy NPC "Little Flower," the players soon found more interesting things to do and forgot all about him.

But later, as the game world and the real world gradually began to overlap, the players watched in despair as the legendary, supposedly impossible-to-clear monster-hunting site appeared in reality. Then the familiar figure they had called "Little Flower" unexpectedly appeared before them.

He was tall and slender, with exceptional looks. Above his head was a character name they had never seen before: Zhe Qiu.

Then he turned around and stepped alone into the seemingly bottomless darkness.

One man, one blade.

He carved his way through an entire Calamity-Class Nightmare Lair.
