Among the incident reports in the Supernatural Affairs Bureau's archives are a few cases that no one could interfere with. They were hastily summarized, closed, and sealed away forever.
[Record No. XX23: The First Love Who Grew Insects]
A cultured, gentle university professor, admired by his students, would spend every weekend dressing elegantly in a suit and tie, then drive himself to a remote, abandoned cemetery early in the morning.
He would slowly tear up in front of the grave of the first love he'd lost to an early death during his student days.
Late at night, dazed and alone, he'd curl up beneath his blankets.
After a long while, he would imagine himself against someone's cold chest, and begin sobbing even harder, until he could barely catch his breath.
He was held in someone's arms. Then he clearly heard a familiar, gentle sigh by his ear: ...Crybaby.
[Record No. XX19: The Wife from the Old Dynasty]
A male college student was invited to help film a documentary at a newly excavated, previously unknown site from an ancient dynasty.
He arrived with a heavy camera and found the site empty. Confused, he saw a handsome man in old-fashioned robes and a jade hairpin, his hair pinned up, standing beside him. He was gorgeous and seemed to be in great spirits. One moment he called the student "Princess," the next "Husband," and he spent the whole night filming footage with him around the deserted site.
The next day, the student received an apologetic message from the museum director saying they'd given him the wrong date.
The director was also puzzled, saying no one had been scheduled to wait for him at the site the previous night.
[Record No. XX43: Realistic Footage]
A mystery-puzzle game based on folk customs had just become a hit. After listening to his twin brother scream in terror from the next room for more than half a month, a young CEO casually downloaded the game from its official website.
The opening screen introduced a village and gave its exact address. Then red candles flickered, and a young man in torn clothes was tied up in a damp woodshed, his skin covered in mottled bloodstains and a strip of cloth over his eyes, damp and clammy.
The young CEO had the eerie feeling that the person on the screen had noticed him. After a few seconds of silence, a trembling voice, choked with tears, came through his headphones: "Big brother."
One day, he happened to see his twin brother watching a gaming blogger's recorded walkthrough and explanation of the game.
He realized with alarm that the plot, setting, main characters, and brutal storyline in everyone else's game
were completely different from the game on his computer, which had practically turned into a dating sim.
And on a real-world map, he found a remote village in the mountains with the same name.
[Record No. XX52: Longevity Locks]
A university's graduate dormitory had two-person suites, with a living room, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. But one graduate student had reached the second year of his program without ever seeing the elusive roommate assigned to share his suite.
Then, for a time, he was targeted and framed by someone, caught in a terrifying curse, and narrowly escaped death several times.
With nowhere else to turn, he put his faith in dubious methods from an obscure online forum that claimed to teach people how to find experts in the field. He spent all his money online buying a pile of strange, occult trinkets, then eagerly began his metaphysical search like a headless chicken.
An old compass began turning slowly on its face.
At last, it tremulously pointed to the door of his roommate's bedroom.
Just as the graduate student despaired, convinced he'd been scammed after all,
he had no idea that, just one door away,
in the depths of a pitch-black room, all sorts of longevity locks hung densely packed together, their bells swaying softly. Apart from the empty space where a bed stood, there wasn't room to set foot anywhere.
Each longevity lock bore faintly engraved characters inside its core.
Every one had the graduate student's name and birth details.
