When Hong Jian awoke, she was in the middle of a rushing river. Her body was nowhere to be found, and only a lone spirit remained in this world.

As a weak ghost, she was silver-tongued, obedient, and careful not to show off her strengths.

Even with all her memories gone, she still knew to be cautious and stay alive.

Just as she finally seized a chance to escape the control of a powerful ghost and stopped for a short rest at a mountain temple, she ran into a Taoist priest seeking shelter from the rain.

The priest was stern and merciless, insisting on taking her to the capital to be exorcised.

But what kind of ghost was Hong Jian? The idea of meekly waiting for death had no place in her dictionary!

So she kept telling him, "You're such a good person, Priest," and, "You're not like the other Taoist priests," doing her best to act obedient and lower his guard. Little did she know, he saw right through her little tricks.

To Shen Yanyun, humans, demons, and ghosts were all the same. As a Taoist priest, his duty was to capture ghosts and subdue demons.

At a mountain temple, while sheltering from the rain, he picked up a little girl ghost. When afraid of him, she acted sweet and obedient; when annoyed, she glared at him with reddened eyes. She seemed docile on the surface, but secretly waved her claws and plotted against him.

Her tricks were so childish and hesitant that they were more amusing than harmful.

Shen Yanyun loved seeing the light sparkle in her lively eyes. She was timid and afraid of getting hurt, yet never gave up trying to escape. She was just like a wildcat that could never be tamed.

And a pretty one, at that.
