Seed for a Child

Her stepmother betrothed her to a dying man. According to the clan's rules, if the husband died first, his wife had to be buried with him.

After the wedding, Ah Yueli endured the whole family's cruel treatment without complaint, always working hard and doing as she was told. But each night, she lit corpse-soul incense and prayed, hoping to borrow a child from the ghosts and gods.

On the day her husband died, Ah Yueli discovered she was pregnant. By good fortune, she was spared from being buried alive.

While everyone else grew suspicious of the child's parentage, she soothed the baby in her belly: Be good, sweetheart. Your mother will take her own revenge. You just eat and sleep well...

[Take revenge on the worst people, with the fiercest little one as your weapon.]
