The wandering swordsman Cui You once helped a down-and-out drunk on a whim. From then on, the man stuck to him like a plaster and refused to come off.
As Cui You traveled thousands of miles across mountains and rivers and drifted through the tumult of the mortal world, that same drunk remained by his side, accompanying him through the changes of the world with nothing but a person and a sword.
Cui You accepted his fate and honored his bet: he became the man's disciple.
But why did nobody tell him this drunk was a cultivator?!
Luo Yang, the Sword Immortal, had a flamboyant name, but he was a deeply unassuming person. He was so low-key that after visiting a beggars' den, he looked even more like a beggar than the beggars themselves.
Then, while traveling through the mortal world, he met a remarkable young man and was instantly awestruck. Such extraordinary talent, such a tragic background: the boy was clearly born to become a sword cultivator!
From then on, the world lost Cui Mingzhe, Crown Prince of Dayin, and gained Cui You, the Sword Immortal's direct disciple. A new path of the sword appeared in the world, known as the Path of Ruthlessness.
The sword is ruthless, but great love knows no bounds.
Yet even as Qingming Sect rose steadily through the cultivation world, Cui You's swordsmanship remained one step short.
It was only when war arrived, when the Carefree Sword Immortal was no longer carefree, and when all was said and done, that Cui You became Qingming Sect's second sect leader and personally buried everything connected to the name Cui You. Only then did he understand why he could never achieve the Dao.
Great love knows no bounds and should embrace all living beings, but his sword had clearly protected only one person. His heart held a private affection.
When the magnolias bloomed, the bamboo grove behind the mountain was no longer home to a pair of masters and disciples sitting across from each other, drinking tea and admiring the flowers.
From then on, the name Cui You vanished from the history of Qingming Sect.
Only the sect's founding patriarch remained: Luo Yang, the Carefree Sword Immortal.
Yet folk tales say that a pair of master and disciple once defied the world and joined their paths in a Dao bond. Before everyone's eyes, lightning struck, and both vanished into ashes.
