Song Zhenting had an ex-husband who died in the line of duty, but no one except him remembered the man's existence. Everyone said he was delusional.
In a fit of anger, he became a dreamer in love with his ex-husband, drawing dream comics and writing dream fic under the pitying, baffled stares of those around him... until one day he awakened to the fact that he was in a romance novel about a human and a ghost.
The good news: He and his ex-husband were the human and the ghost.
The bad news: They weren't the leads, just the vicious foil couple.
Song Zhenting was ecstatic. "I told you my husband really existed. That's some face-slapping, huh?"

After accidentally renting a haunted apartment, the protagonist pulled out a stack of yellow talismans to protect himself. Song Zhenting, meanwhile, leisurely took out three tarot cards.
"Honey, is that you?"
After his ex-husband gave him a thorough scolding, the strange phenomena disappeared that very night. In their place, whenever Song Zhenting kept unhealthy hours, something would fly out of nowhere and bop him on the head.
When a string of murders took place at the family estate, the protagonist and a ghost worked together to find the wronged spirit and catch the killer. Song Zhenting took out paper and pen and declared, "Honey, I trust you. Draw whoever you think did it, and I'll have the butler arrest them."
After drawing the culprit, the floating pencil paused for a long time, then sketched a tiny version of Song Zhenting.
That very night, he obediently handcuffed himself to the bedpost, ready to be arrested. But the cuffs suddenly unlocked, and an unseen force kicked him onto his butt.
The bedding felt a little colder that night, too.
At the end of the original story, the protagonist accumulated enough good karma and had the plot's favor on his side, successfully finding a body to revive his beloved. Song Zhenting, a brainless villain, had impure motives and took the crooked path. Not only did his attempt to revive his husband fail, but he also lost his entire fortune and became seriously ill.
As he crouched by the roadside with tears in his eyes, warmth suddenly enveloped him. Lu Xijie sighed beside his ear. "How can you be so stupid? The only time you could ever get the better of me was back in school."
An over-the-top dreamer, a rich kid raised frugally by his family x a justice-loving ghost, cold on the outside and warm on the inside
