Can a Solitary Rei Furuya See His Fellow Ghosts on the Hungry Ghost Festival?

A short story, possibly with a continuation

The full synopsis is in the highly descriptive title. Here are some warnings:

* A ghost story set on the Ghost Festival. I typed at top speed but still missed the festival... Once I passed the deadline, I went into slacker mode and put it off until now [ ]

* A short story with a platonic pairing, third-person narration

* Since most of it is from Furuya Rei's point of view, the five characters get different amounts of focus. I'm not very good at writing group interactions, orz

* Extreme OOC warning, extreme OOC warning, extreme OOC warning

* I tried writing a rambling style I've wanted to experiment with for ages, even though it isn't very popular. It got so rambling that the background description took up more space than the actual plot [ ] Then, as I kept writing, my true colors showed and I went back to the plain, straightforward style I'm comfortable with

* The trope is an old one, so someone is bound to have used it before (but I really want to write it TT). I swear that before writing this, I avoided reading any Police Academy group stories set after the Black Organization was destroyed, except for a long one I read a long time ago. If anything overlaps, it's purely coincidental. Sorry if it does.

* The story takes place after everything is over, hence the other title, "After the Black Organization Falls"

I've made the warnings this long, so there shouldn't be any problems, right?

Theme: Always keep hope in your heart and keep moving forward
