Prologue

"Fate," "reincarnation," "past and present lives."

I never used to believe in these words. I always thought they were just something people who regretted their lives said at the end to comfort themselves.

As the saying goes, "Looking back along the path we came, we see green hills stretching into the distance." When we suddenly catch sight of another self, foolish, insecure, awkward, and rash, standing at the other end of time, we are bound to wonder just how many traces the passing years can leave in a person's heart. There are too many to count.

Everyone carries many different genes within them, and each develops in its own particular environment. So what we should do is look toward the future, instead of endlessly dwelling on the past.

A note from the author:

Starting a new project~~~~ A whole new novel, a whole new story, a whole new journey, a whole new adventure~~~~ (Uh, why does what I wrote sound like the opening of a Digimon anime?) Anyway, I'm going to write something new with a fresh outlook and share it with everyone. I originally planned to finish the whole thing before posting it bit by bit, but my friend Sihemu told me not to wait. The buzz around Chinese Paladin 3 will have died down by then, so I should strike while the iron is hot.

October 25: Looks like I'm in a writing slump lately, so updates will be irregular. Sihemu says writer's block is just a passing cloud~

November 3: My phone was stolen. Today is a disaster!

November 5: I think the story is almost over. It should wrap up within the month. I promise that once it's finished, I'll post an "extras" chapter with a few pictures and some behind-the-scenes notes about writing it~

November 6: Another disaster today. My antivirus said my USB drive had a "worm virus," so I had to format it... I've already posted all the chapters I had saved, but losing the original manuscript leaves me feeling so empty!!

November 7: I recovered the original manuscript today, but I saw that I lost four favorites, four! o(>﹏
