On her journey to adulthood, she met Wei Jin.
He was courteous, mature, and always knew how to keep things within bounds. It felt only natural that she fell for him.
But from late autumn to the depths of winter, their connection lasted less time than she had expected.
"I bought a ticket for tomorrow. I'm going back."
The farewell came out of nowhere. On a street late at night, the streetlights stretched their shadows long.
"Why are you in such a hurry to go back?"
She stopped and turned around, rising onto her toes as she smiled at him. "You're really tall. Even when I stretch up as far as I can, I still can't meet your eyes."
He bent down slightly. "What about now?"
She shook her head. "You can't keep doing that forever."
Some feelings can be kept in your heart for a lifetime. But some distances can't be bridged by one person bending down.
Only later did she understand that not everything needs an ending. He had been a benefactor on her journey to adulthood, and they were lucky to have shared part of the road. Going their separate ways afterward made their time together a precious memory.
But was she truly without regrets?
Turning away that night was the last scrap of pride she gave herself.
It was also a winter she would remember over and over again through many springs to come.
When they met again, the spring sunshine was beautiful.
She smiled at him. "Long time no see."
He said earnestly, "You've grown taller."
