A Lord's Favor Is Hard to Shake

Sometimes I find myself thinking of someone from the past.

She loves someone else, but I still love her. Even though she was once my imperial younger sister, now calls someone else her husband, and is heavily pregnant, I still love her.

In the spring of the second year of Shangyuan, the Marchioness of Chengde divorced and left her husband. Three days later, an imperial decree named her the Lady of Chu.

Rather than toss and turn night after night just to earn a reputation for magnanimity in her eyes, I might as well summon her to the palace and let her husband see for himself how I dote on his wife.

All the world's sins are mine to bear. From the moment I set my heart on taking her, everything that followed was a punishment I deserved.

I gave her up once. I will never be magnanimous enough to do so again.
