In today's food world, where everyone competes to outdo one another and innovate, food blogger Chu Leyou, who cares only about the natural flavor of ingredients and doesn't believe in “doing things differently just for the sake of it,” has long since fallen out of fashion and lost her following. But she refuses to give up. She sticks to “old-fashioned” cooking techniques and fights online trolls. Little did she know that after finishing an online flame war, Chu Leyou would wake up and find herself transmigrated to ancient times.
The good news: Resources are scarce here, so there are definitely no high-tech cooking gadgets.
The bad news: War is raging, she's dependent on others, and they're desperately poor. They can't even afford ingredients...
But none of that can dampen her love of food.
Born in a mountain village, Chu Leyou gathers mushrooms and wild greens, catches frogs, and makes sweet potato noodles... At last, she helps her uncle's family get enough to eat. Along the way, she also saves a handsome young man, as beautiful as jade and strikingly elegant, who has fainted from hunger in the wilderness.
The young man slowly opens a pair of alluring fox eyes. Looking at Chu Leyou in her rough cloth clothes, he says weakly, “I'm hungry...”
Chu Leyou hurries to bring him a bowl of sweet potato noodles with wild greens and mushrooms. As she tidies the kitchen, she sneaks glances at the handsome man eating.
After finishing, the young man wipes his mouth and says, “Miss, your cooking is excellent. How about coming to the Dali Temple to run its kitchen?”
Hard-pressed for money, Chu Leyou agrees and follows him to the capital that very night.
Chu Leyou thinks that as the cafeteria manager of the prestigious Dali Temple, she'll be in charge of everything in the kitchen, with no one to compete with. Surely things won't be so cutthroat!
But after joining the Dali Temple, just as she's rolling up her sleeves and preparing to show off her skills, she finds crumbling buildings, rickety tables and chairs, and kitchen tools covered in cobwebs... Chu Leyou has no choice but to take on every job herself: chopping ingredients, making dough, cooking, cleaning...
As she throws herself into outdoing everyone in the kitchen, the cash-strapped Dali Temple even ropes her into working as an artist, an undercover agent, and a coroner...
Gu Yanzhi, the Dali Temple's Vice Minister, with his peach-blossom eyes and rosy lips, gives her a sidelong look and asks with a smile, “Miss Chu, would you mind pretending to be my fiancée again?”
Good heavens! Are all the ancients this competitive?!
Just as Chu Leyou is about to despair from all the competition, she discovers by chance that her true identity is not merely that of a village girl!
