[Two female leads + both powerful + Bureau 749 for Paranormal Affairs + metaphysics + Miao geomancer from western Hunan]
The main cast is entirely female, with almost no male characters outside the supernatural incidents.
Xu Qinghuan, the 48th-generation heir to a Miao geomancer lineage in western Hunan, is invited by Director Wang of the Southern Paranormal Investigation Bureau, Bureau 749. She takes a government position while working and studying part-time.
Bian Yue, captain of Bureau 749's First Investigation Team, sees that Xu Yan has only just graduated from high school yet has already become a metaphysics master. Knowing she's a well-connected recruit recommended by an important figure, Bian Yue starts bickering with her soon after they meet.
While investigating paranormal cases, the two discover that some spirits have learned human arrays and talismans.
A powerful spirit accuses Bian Yue of treating a thief as her mother. It seems Bureau 749 is also hiding secrets...
As the two support each other through one mission after another, their feelings quietly begin to change.
Most of the story, of course, follows various true paranormal cases from the Southern Kingdom. The adapted stories weave in lots of knowledge about metaphysics, literature, and geography.
Wang Yidu of the Oriental Pearl Tower undergoes a tribulation, mountain spirits in southeastern Guizhou, corpse-driving Miao traditions in western Hunan, the blue and white dragons of Dongting Lake, the Yingkou dragon, and a bizarre girls' dormitory in Henan...
[Pure romance, both leads are each other's only one. Fictional story. The author is a Miao geomancer.]
Theme: Readers and the two leads grow together as they investigate paranormal cases, learning how to love and protect.
