In the year 1000 of the Conquest Era, Dumbledore became the new governor of Westeros. To curb the influence of the Slytherin dukes in the Wizengamot and the army, he hoped that Ser James Potter of the Westerlands would go to King's Landing to serve as tribune. Though James knew full well how dangerous the road ahead would be, he was determined to help his old friend. Before leaving, he bestowed the ancestral sword Dawn and the crown of Gryffindor upon his fifteen-year-old eldest son, Harry, entrusting him with the duties of lord.
At the same time, the Duke of Slytherin had a dream: On an icy plain, a black stag charged toward him, dragging the shadow of a lion behind it. With a roar, it transformed into a blaze of fire. Then a red dragon appeared from within the flames and burned him with its dragonfire...
It reminded him of a prophecy from many years ago: The lion dies, the stag is wounded, the serpent coils in its nest, and the dragon appears.
