5. Setting: The Trial of the Throne uses a virtual-world format. The trial is a full-immersion game, and all candidates have their real-life memories sealed and are given virtual identities. There are two kinds of candidates: royal heirs, who become romanceable NPCs in the game, and those who assist the heirs, who become players with greater freedom. The virtual world simulates reality, though it is not a perfect copy and reality is more technologically advanced. It takes place when the characters have returned to their youth.
