Bai Yizhi has been able to tell fortunes ever since she learned to speak.
One day, she tossed a coin and learned that she was destined to enter the jianghu.
There, a benefactor would help her find her mother.
Under cover of a dark and stormy night, she got her brother drunk and swiped his prized steed, then grabbed eight boxes of gold leaves from her private vault and headed straight for the place her divination had pointed to: Shu.
The moment she arrived in Shu, she ran straight into her benefactor on a killing spree.
Bai Yizhi knew when to bend and when to stand firm. Holding up her tortoise shell, she cried, "Spare me, husband!"
The hand gripping his sword seemed to tremble. "If there's something wrong with your brain, go get it treated."
Bai Yizhi followed her benefactor everywhere, even paying for the tables, chairs, and crockery he had smashed at an inn with her gold leaves, all to befriend him and use his help to find her mother.
But, to her surprise, her benefactor suddenly put on a fawning face.
"Does my lady need a bodyguard? I am the greatest swordsman under heaven, with the finest lightness skills and swordsmanship in the world... My monthly fee is just one bag of gold leaves. Excellent quality at a bargain price!"
Bai Yizhi had seen him kill, and every alarm bell in her head was ringing.
But for her mother's sake, she still made a pact with him and set off on the road together.
She had still underestimated him. He made her trip, mocked her and argued with her, and went on a killing spree even after she had clearly told him to hold off...
He was an utterly shameless bastard!

Li Buyan is a penniless swordsman who occasionally works as an assassin.
One day, just after he had killed a few underlings, a girl dripping with gold and jewels suddenly grabbed his bloodstained clothes and called him, "Husband!"
He knew he was handsome, but there was no need to shout that while he was killing people.
He shook her off two or three times, but for some reason, she always managed to find him again.
That is, until he took on a troublesome contract to assassinate an elder of the Wanchan Sect, which required him to sneak into a swordsmanship tournament in disguise.
Looking at the wealthy young lady who had just settled his inn bill, he guessed at her identity and suddenly came up with a brilliant idea.
He smiled ingratiatingly. "I still don't know my lady's name."
The girl looked innocent and guileless, utterly unaware of his scheme. "Bai Yizhi, courtesy name Zhao'an."
He thought he could easily handle this young lady who had run away from home without permission. Instead, he found himself constantly being led around by her, and even the clues to the mystery he had been investigating were connected to the fortune she'd cast.
Ever since she slapped him, things seemed to have gone strangely awry.
He decided he must be possessed.

Bai Yizhi gradually understood that the jianghu was nothing like the romantic world of wine and poetry in the stories.
Its bloodshed and monsters chilled her to the bone, nearly leaving her utterly disillusioned.
The clues to her mother's whereabouts were tangled and elusive, and had become inextricably linked to the past Li Buyan was pursuing.
She created her own form of heavenly divination to uncover the truth, only to discover by chance that Li Buyan had two fates.
One of them had shattered twelve years ago.
The broken fate bore the words, "Dragon bones snapped, jade records burned."
Bai Yizhi did not ask Li Buyan about it.
Only after she was forced to return home did Li Buyan appear with two hundred soldiers, as if from the heavens.
"Bai Zhao'an, I spent three hundred taels hiring two hundred caravan guards to pretend to be the Black Armored Army so I could find you... You need to give me another bag of gold leaves to make up for it."

"Bai Yizhi felt uncomfortable hearing these words, and her brows furrowed even more. She didn't understand how Duan Yi had become so familiar with each other after just a few years. If Duan Yi hadn't been able to lead them into Chenyue Cave, she really didn't want to deal with such a strange person." Catch a bug for the author~ A few acquaintances
