[Age gap | Status gap | Power gap | Love unrequited]
[Content warning] This story was inspired by the beauty of Taoist magic, and I started writing it to show off some talismans. There are a lot of them. The story is plot-focused, and I'll try not to rely on wildly fantastical golden fingers. I'll do my best to make the "mysticism" work within what I know. It has a bad ending, so if you prefer sweet, indulgent, satisfying romance, this isn't for you.
Synopsis 1:
Lu Lingyun and her master run a specialized funeral parlor.
They take on only the dangerous cases nobody else dares touch.
Their latest job is downright eerie:
The century-old Zhou family mansion is haunted. A woman sings opera there at midnight, calling out "Mountain Lord." Then Lu Lingyun discovers that the Mountain Lord, Qi Xiu, looks exactly like the mansion's owner, Zhou Zhongyang!
The first time they clash, the Mountain Lord pins her against a window, her hands locked in his.
He grits his teeth. "You dare come back? Aren't you afraid I'll kill you?"
Back then, the Mountain Lord had borrowed Zhou Zhongyang's body and stolen her first kiss. She had bitten his lip in return.
Later, she digs something out of the bottom of a well:
A jade box sealed with talismans, and a soul-subduing sword, cold as ice.
The moment the talisman ash hits the ground, the fierce evil spirit Qi Xiu, imprisoned for a thousand years, breaks free!
She doesn't have time to memorize the mysterious runes. She only remembers the two characters "Yunyao" at the heart of the talisman. Yunyao was born with the bones of a Daoist, a prodigy of the mystical sect a thousand years ago. She passed down many powerful arts, yet her methods were so strange that the world rejected her.
It is also said that she traveled through the chaotic Wei and Jin era, subdued a spirit tiger, helped it cultivate, and gave it the name Qi Xiu.
She made a deal with the Barbarian King. He sought immortality from her using spirit-and-ghost Gu magic, but the deal led to disaster.
She even personally killed her closest spirit attendant, then gave up her own body and guided the dead in a thousand-year-old royal tomb.
That calamity vanished into the river of history, but its sins did not end.
It turns out no one in this life is innocent.
Their endings were determined from the moment they were born.
A thousand years ago, Yunyao once warned Qi Xiu:
"Deep love does not bring long life. A sage may feel affection without being burdened by it. In the end, it comes down to three words: do not force it."
But Qi Xiu had sought supreme cultivation precisely so he could force it.
A thousand years later, Zhou Zhongyang is still trapped by love.
He returns from the Barbarian King's tomb and survives alone, but is forced to forget everything.
Many years later,
old Zhou Zhongyang lies on his sickbed, and in his final moments, a hazy memory comes to him:
"...Did I once love someone?"
Synopsis 2:
The descendants of the ancient Chi You tribe left behind an unprecedented magical array. Humans, ghosts, spirits, and monsters flock to it in pursuit of cultivation and enlightenment. She is the "key." When the strange gate opens, a thousand things spring to life. She is the one who sets the trap and the one who solves it, both the instigator and the strange Daoist who upholds the Way.
Core message: Treasure the present
It's beautiful. After watching it, I felt like I felt a little empty. The lovely Yun Yun disappeared like this. I thought Yun Yun would come back later. I thought Zhou Zhongyang would always persist. I thought it was a happy ending. Maybe, everything in life is impermanent? Maybe we just live an ordinary life like this, a life without any hidden meanings. The intersection is already beautiful, and the rest is just life.
Although it is a tragedy, it does not prevent it from being beautiful!

I didn't read the previous article and read the comment section, so I skipped to the end and took a second look… So the heroine died and the hero forgot that she was going to get married soon...?
Very nice to look at. I stayed up late last night to read it. I cried so much that I felt so sad when I went to bed.
So well written. The author please continue to write more articles
I really didn't expect to die so cleanly...
There must be a lot of background information for this article, thank you very much
The ending won't be Be, right?
This part is wonderfully written
