For all three years of high school, Su Yiman had a crush on Xie Pan.

But the gap between them was enormous. She was an ordinary weed among the masses, while Xie Pan was dazzling and free-spirited, doing whatever he pleased with an innate air of nobility.

Su Yiman knew she was asking for the impossible.

But that summer, after the college entrance exams, Xie Pan suddenly came looking for her.

He lazily lifted his chin at her and said, just like that, "Su Yiman, let's date."

During the time she was with Xie Pan, Su Yiman never felt like it was real.

She couldn't feel much love from him, even though Xie Pan genuinely loved her body.

Whenever they met, he preferred calling her over to his place rather than taking her on a date.

She cried so many tears, silently wiping them away against the hollow of his neck each time.

Not long after, one truth after another came to light. Su Yiman thought Xie Pan really didn't love her, and saw clearly that the gulf between their social classes was impossible to cross.

She ended things with Xie Pan on her own and disappeared without a trace.

When Su Yiman saw Xie Pan again, she never expected that he would still be single, with no romantic history or developments with anyone else.

All those years they were apart, he had been looking for her.

Su Yiman finally couldn't help asking, "Xie Pan, why did you go into business?"

There had been better paths open to him.

But Xie Pan said, "If I hadn't gone into business, you and I wouldn't have had the slightest chance."

She stared at him, stunned. "Wouldn't that have been better?"

"Of course not." Xie Pan gazed steadily at her. "Without you, there's no point in living."
