Ji Yingfei and the newly arrived Level One intern, Yu Youling, don't get along at all.
He thinks Yu Youling is sanctimonious, disingenuous, and wears a fake smile. He's exactly the kind of self-righteous hypocrite Ji hates most.
Yu Youling also can't stand Ji Yingfei.
He thinks Ji is childish, nasty, and acts like a spoiled rich kid. He's the most impossible brat in the world to get along with.
Then one day, after they returned from a mission, Ji Yingfei suddenly discovered that he could hear Yu Youling's true thoughts.
At kindergarten, Yu Youling patiently handed out cookies to every child.
Ji Yingfei heard him think: What a bunch of nuisances.
At the opera house, after the dance performance ended, Yu Youling smiled and applauded every dancer.
Sitting beside him, Ji Yingfei heard his inner commentary: A bunch of stiff-limbed apes.
Ji Yingfei suddenly felt he'd found someone who shared his outlook.
Then, one time, they narrowly escaped death, and Yu Youling was exhausted and covered in wounds.
Ji Yingfei asked him, "Are you okay?"
Yu Youling shook his head. "I'm fine."
But Ji Yingfei heard the voice in his head:
"Kiss me."
Ji Yingfei froze, then leaned in and kissed him.
Then Yu Youling beat him up.
That night, Ji Yingfei was sent to the research institute's medical department. He was diagnosed with a mild case of "delusion imposition," caused by the influence of an anomalous organism.
*Delusion imposition: attributing your own thoughts to the person you're fixated on, and firmly believing those thoughts belong to them.
