Miss Yun finds a little fox in the valley.
The little fox is sweet and clingy. When Miss Yun goes to gather herbs, the little fox follows. When Miss Yun goes to cook, the little fox follows. When Miss Yun goes to bathe, the little fox wants to come along, too.
Miss Yun names the little fox A Yao, teaches her to talk, gives her clothes to wear, and takes her down to the town to enjoy delicious food.
The little fox is well-behaved every day. Only once in a while does she get into fights with the village children. The little fox is so strong she knocks the other kids down in no time, making them wail. They run home crying to get their parents to stick up for them, and the little fox runs back crying to Miss Yun.
As if a little fox would know how to cry. She rubs her eyes red but can't shed a single tear, and can only puff out her cheeks in a huff.
Miss Yun isn't angry at all. She not only takes the little fox's side, but gives her a kiss on the cheek, too.
Later, Miss Yun dies and becomes a ghost.
She drifts through the world, searching for her A Yao. She searches for five hundred years.
Miss Yun becomes a powerful ghost.
The world has fallen on bad times. Obsession and resentment, demons and ghosts, appear one after another, and Mount Futu has even produced a great demon capable of destroying heaven and earth.
They say that demon was once a great monster who cultivated the immortal sect's path of emotionlessness to its highest level. But after killing his wife to prove his Dao, he failed to ascend. His Dao heart was damaged, and he fell into the demonic path.
Miss Yun hears these rumors and lets them pass. She never takes them to heart, since she still has to find A Yao.
Fortunately, Miss Yun really does find A Yao.
It is a terrible day. The Futu Realm is a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood, with severed limbs and shattered bodies everywhere. Someone walks out of the dense black fog, sword in hand, with raven hair, red robes, and a face as cold as snow.
Miss Yun is nearly out of life. Her body has become a faint, thin shadow, drifting forward like mist, her fingertips transparent.
“A Yao.”
