Underclassman Kobayashi

A stern-faced but warmhearted junior x gentle, resilient Senior Song

1 / Song Wenbai is the discipline committee member at her high school's senior division. She never cracks a smile, and people call her an old-school student council official.

She thinks a second-year student who plays sports doesn't quite respect her.

Whenever she checks for discipline issues on odd-numbered days, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays,

she always feels someone's burning gaze on her, as if it wants to leave a mark. It's impossible to ignore.

But whenever she looks over, the boy presses his lips together, a hint of panic in his eyes, and avoids meeting her gaze, leaving only the hard outline of his profile.

"What is he feeling guilty about?"

Later, she happens to see something on the boy's computer:

a photo album named after her nickname, "Xiao Fu 1998," and an unsent love letter with a worn, crumpled corner.

Song Wenbai finally understands: her junior has a crush on her!

2 / All the students at Pusan think Song Wenbai, the student council president, is the top student of the year, aloof and old-fashioned.

But only Lin Yuqing knows that his Senior Song is sensitive and helpless, and needs love, lots and lots of love to nourish her.

Beneath the Chinese banyan tree, the boy awkwardly reaches out and touches her head. "Senior, I'll come find you next year."

After the college entrance exams, he gives her a poster for the 1998 exam results wall: "May she shine bright. May she stand tall. May she go straight toward her dreams and soar to great heights."
