On New Year's Eve, Sheng Yiyang worked overtime in the autopsy room to examine the body of someone who had died by suicide.
The deceased was named Song Siyan, his senior at university and the rumored rival for his affections during his first year.

Song Siyan looked at him abruptly, glanced around, then pointed at himself, his eyes widening as if to ask:
Are you talking to me?
A few seconds later, Song Siyan politely got in and shut the door. His eyes curved into a lovely smile.
"Sorry to trouble you. You might not remember me, junior. We met once in the student advisor's office. My name is Song Siyan. Si, as in longing, and Yan, as in bright and smiling..."
Before he could finish, a folded sheet of paper slipped from his textbook and fell beside his leg.
It was a love letter.
Sheng Yiyang recognized it. As Song Siyan tried to look calm, he picked it up and handed it to him.
"Senior Song, a love letter only means something if you give it to the person."
"It's not a love... You're right."
Song Siyan couldn't lie to Sheng Yiyang, so he gave up and pretended to be inscrutable.
To him, love letters were an old-fashioned way of communicating, yet filled with all the romance of a lifetime.
And he would write them for Sheng Yiyang alone.
