Sui Yu, founding marshal and first chair of the interstellar federation's parliament.
She emerged from desolation and the smoke of war. History books devoted page after page to her achievements and her grand campaigns. She was a new ruler who worked miracles where none seemed possible.
A thousand years later, as people of the Federation began studying the life of this founding marshal, they accidentally discovered a diary among her belongings.
[Two months until graduation. I've started sending out resumes! Hope everything goes well.]
[One month until graduation. All 28 of my resumes were rejected. I still haven't found a job.]
[One week until graduation. All 147 of my resumes were rejected. I still haven't found a job.]
[Two days until graduation. Still haven't found a job.]
[Graduated. I'm done looking for a job. I've decided to send this damn world to its doom :) ]
Sui Yu is a Beta.
She has an ordinary family and an ordinary life.
Both her parents are Betas. She never stood out as a child, with neither outstanding looks nor outstanding grades. She planned to live an ordinary life, find an equally ordinary Beta, and repeat the lives of her ancestors.
In a world where Alphas hold all the power, class is entrenched, capital runs rampant, and people in the frontier systems live in misery, this is Sui Yu's greatest ambition.
But she hits a snag right at the first step: she can't find a job.
Day one of job hunting: full of energy.
Day two of job hunting: a little dejected.
Day n of job hunting: Sui Yu digs out a StarNet account she hasn't used in ages and decides to ask her old friends if the space pirates are still looking for a boss.
And maybe blow up a corporation or two, just for starters.
That'll teach them to reject her resume!
If she can't find a job, she can't repeat the lives of her ancestors or become an utterly unremarkable Beta.
To find a job and get her life back on track, Sui Yu decides to take out the biggest obstacle first: the Empire.
Starting over.
Sui Yu is an utterly ordinary Beta.
Sure, she enjoys giving speeches (rallying people and sowing discord), loves fireworks (explosions and the art of pyrotechnics), and has a wide circle of friends (as the leader of the resistance). But Sui Yu firmly believes she's nothing more than an utterly ordinary, upstanding Beta.
