Blurb:
Wen Yao and Zhu Qingheng grew up together and were promised to each other as children. Once Wen Yao came of age, they naturally became husband and wife.
Zhu Qingheng loved her. Wen Yao knew that.
But she always felt there was an invisible wall between them, as if she could never truly enter his world.
Then one day, he brought a woman home from the pleasure house, and that wall disappeared.
Zhu Qingheng was born into this world with memories of a past life. He had lived in ancient times for so long that he had nearly forgotten his days in the modern world.
He was a refined and gentle young man, the son of a Grand Tutor, and had grown up with Wen Yao, the only daughter of the renowned Chancellor Wen. They fell in love and married.
He loved Wen Yao: her beauty, her talent, everything about her.
But he missed his homeland even more, the place he could never return to.
So when he realized that Liu Ci, a woman from the pleasure house, came from the same world as him, he forgot all about his wife Wen Yao and brought Liu Ci home without hesitation.
Wen Yao was learned, reasonable, and understanding. Surely she would understand him.
That is, if he hadn't received her letter of separation.
"I have my own ambitions. Have you never seen them?"
"When we meet again at court, we will no longer be husband and wife, only political rivals."
[Reading Guide:
1. The male lead changes. The male lead is the emperor, and the second male lead will have a long road to redemption.
2. The female lead and male leads are all each other's first and only. That's the female-oriented genre for you.
3. The heroine has her own career arc. She enters government service and supports a female emperor. As for why she is still the empress, you'll have to guess.
4. While she is married to the second male lead, the heroine has no romantic entanglement with the male lead.]
Upcoming historical romance: The Dodder Flower Bride of the Tyrant
Wu Ning was born in the countryside, yet blessed with extraordinary beauty.
Her parents sold her to the capital in hopes of making a fortune. Before she could fall into the hands of the powerful men they had connections with, a refined young gentleman bought her.
The gentleman was handsome and elegant. He never forced Wu Ning to do anything she didn't want to. He simply kept her in his residence and left an older woman to train her.
Wu Ning was obedient and compliant, following the older woman's lessons and treating the gentleman as her whole world.
A year later, Wu Ning rode in a bridal sedan, but she was not marrying the gentleman.
The gentleman loved the Princess of Luo. Wu Ning was merely a substitute, sent to marry the Emperor of Jing in the princess's place.
But Wu Ning didn't mind. Though she was lovely, her body was frail, and she was destined to drift like a leaf on the water, unable to escape her fate.
Whoever she married, as long as she could stay alive, that was enough.
Ying Shang was infamous, known throughout Zhongzhou as a tyrant.
A fierce warrior from a young age, he was autocratic, lawless, cruel, and extravagant.
The one thing he never did was take an interest in women.
Everyone who fell into his hands, man or woman, suffered brutal torture. He was merciless.
Yet under this emperor, the country was powerful and prosperous, with no other state able to stand against it.
Hoping to curry favor and secure protection, Luo proposed a marriage alliance based on a betrothal arranged by the late Emperor of Jing, despite knowing how cruel Ying Shang was.
Ying Shang named the cherished little princess of Luo as his bride.
On the day the Princess of Luo arrived to marry him, Ying Shang happened to be in a foul mood and slaughtering people left and right.
The tyrant, eyes red with bloodlust, lifted his blood-drenched sword and raised the red curtain of the bridal sedan.
It wasn't the Princess of Luo.
Seated inside was a young woman with snow-white skin and rosy cheeks. She stared at him with wide, shining eyes, without blinking.
As if she couldn't see the bloody sword lifting the curtain, or the horrifying sight of a river of blood behind him.
Ying Shang thought, What nerve.
She'd dared to lift her own veil before he could.
The young woman curved her peach-blossom eyes and called out lightly, "My lord husband, Your Majesty."
What kind of ridiculous title was that?
Ying Shang narrowed his eyes, bent down into the sedan, wrapped an arm around her slender waist, and slung her over his shoulder.
"What's your name?" he asked.
The young woman draped over his shoulder replied obediently, "Wu Ning."
Wu Ning.
Later, when enemies crossed the border, Ying Shang personally led his army to war. He was gone for half a year, without a word.
Everyone in Jing said the tyrant had died at the border.
Wu Ning, now a Noble Consort, thought that even if he was dead, she would have to find a way forward for herself.
But on the very day she was leaving the palace, Ying Shang returned, travel-worn, and caught Wu Ning just as she was about to elope with someone else.
Ying Shang embraced her from behind, gripping her chin with one hand as he gently nibbled at her snowy earlobe.
Before them was the Princess of Luo's husband, the man who had bought Wu Ning, now suffering under torture and hoping to take her back to Luo.
"Ningning, am I not enough to keep you clinging to me?" he asked hoarsely, his blood-red eyes challenging the man across from them.
Just as she had at their first meeting, Wu Ning ignored the man whose eyes had been gouged out and turned to hug Ying Shang around the waist like a spoiled child.
"I only cling to you," she said with innocent cheer. "He tricked me into going to look for you."
Liar. You were going to elope with him.
Ying Shang silently swept her into his arms. Wu Ning lifted her arms around his neck and nestled against his chest, depending on him.
His Noble Consort was a dodder flower. If the great tree she clung to fell, it was only natural for her to seek another place to grow.
[Reading Guide:
1. Written for my own enjoyment. The heroine really is a dodder flower, and she is a fickle opportunist with no heart.
2. An alternate world, loosely inspired by the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period.
3. One-on-one, both leads are each other's first and only. The heroine has a mild everybody-loves-her quality.
4. Both leads have flaws. Neither is perfect.
5. More to come when I think of it.]
Theme: Never think less of yourself.
Very good, I really like the development of the heroine
Okay, okay, here I come 🐰
