Xu Xia wanted to get ahead so badly that she started dating someone in college.
The guy was the top student in their department: Bo Yanli, a famous golden boy and, as everyone knew, a "mama's boy."
Apparently, his mother had three rules: no dating in college, no video games, and never falling below first place in the class.
Eventually, all three rules became meaningless.
Perhaps a passionate beginning was always destined to end in heartbreak.
On graduation day, Xu Xia left him a letter and ended a relationship that should never have begun.

They met again four years later.
One was a highly acclaimed rising star in tech. The other was a struggling research assistant.
It was summer again, with the cicadas growing louder. As they brushed past each other, she caught the familiar scent of fir on him.
Later, he happened to help her solve a difficult problem.
At a cafe, Xu Xia asked earnestly and cautiously what kind of compensation he wanted.
The man casually stretched his legs out in front of him. His deep gaze settled on her, and he said in his spare voice, "Do you really think I'd dare ask?"
After all, she was the woman who had slapped him on the day they broke up and left him a "massive breakup settlement."

Xu Xia didn't want to get tangled up with him again.
She wanted to settle every account she could.
But before long, their paths began crossing more and more often, without warning.
Only now, their positions were worlds apart.
On a tipsy summer night, a friend brought up their relationship. Xu Xia's cheeks flushed, but she waved it off. "Even the dogs passing by know we could never be together."
He was so proud. How could he ever lower his head for her again?
But before long, someone saw them.
On a stormy midsummer day, beside the curb, the always-arrogant young master stood with a cold expression, bent over to carry her slender figure into his car.
