According to historical records, during the Shang Dynasty, human sacrifice was widespread, and ghosts and gods roamed the world. Ordinary people were lucky to get a single good night's sleep. After the Zhou overthrew the Shang, the Zhou people abolished human sacrifice, opened a path to another realm, and invited the ghosts and gods to leave, telling the people to respect them but keep their distance.

There was also a folk rumor that the Zhou were skilled at divination and had long ago predicted that two thousand years later, ghosts and gods might return to the mortal world and bring disaster. So they sealed away the means of dealing with them in Yin Mountain.

Two thousand years after the Zhou founded their dynasty, sorcerers from across the land followed their ancestors' instructions and set out together for Yin Mountain...

Xie Luan was born without spiritual sight. Though adopted by a sorceress, she could neither see vengeful spirits nor practice magic. She made a living traveling with her adoptive mother, putting on shows and exorcising spirits. Her greatest wish was simply to earn enough to eat in this perilous world. But after more than a decade together, her adoptive mother suddenly disappeared without a word, and the person she secretly loved began acting stranger and stranger. The things happening in the world seemed increasingly beyond anything Xie Luan could have imagined.

With her adoptive mother missing and the person she loves hovering between life and death, Xie Luan, barely clinging to life, swallows her pride and strikes a deal with the interloper who has taken over her home.

Yu Wang is picky, lazy, unreliable, and has more flaws than anyone could count. Despite that pretty face, she makes you want to curse her out.

Once the deal is done, Xie Luan turns to leave. But the person who usually argues with her most fiercely grabs her and sneers, “Just how am I worse than her?”

2. All the settings are made up by the author. The Shang and Zhou dynasties are only a broad backdrop; the story actually takes place in a fictional dynasty. This novel does not involve any real religions or historical figures.
