[Pride and Prejudice] The Mysterious Young Lady

Just for fun, I'm writing a mash-up of Jane Austen novels and history, paired with Viscount Melbourne.

*

In 1797, Linton House, which had stood empty for a long time, was rented out.

The prospective tenant was a young, handsome gentleman.

"I haven't found out who he is, but that's the largest estate around here. The rent alone is several hundred pounds a year!" Mrs. Bennet said.

He was sure to be a wealthy bachelor, she thought confidently. Her daughters' future husbands were as good as found.

But to everyone's disappointment, the person who finally moved in was a twelve-year-old girl.

She was accompanied only by a governess and an elderly female guardian.

She had dark hair, brown eyes, and a small, pale, delicate face. Her features were exceptionally beautiful.

She was like a fairy.

No one knew who she was.

Miss Caroline Ponsonby was the only daughter of the Earl and Countess of Bessborough.

She was set to inherit all their property, and perhaps even the title of Countess in her own right.

She was an only child, not because her parents doted on her, but because they had a terrible relationship, lived apart for years, and each pursued their own lovers.

As a result, they paid little attention to her and neglected her care.

She grew up sensitive and quick-tempered.

She was almost the richest heiress in all of England.

Her parents eventually grew tired of her and sent her to live with her aunt, Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire.

Caroline had a nightmare in which she was driven mad.

She suddenly made a request.

She wanted to live in the countryside, away from the public eye.

The original story's timeline is 1802.

When the heroine appears, Jane is 18, Elizabeth is 16, Darcy is 23,

and the hero is 18.

A story about a little girl learning to take care of herself.

The heroine was born in 1785.

Viscount Melbourne, William Lamb, was born in 1779.

Theme: Personal growth is what matters most
