[A Garfield cat with intermittent bursts of energy x a many-layered lasagna who switches between pure and dark]
1.
The second Yun Yi's heart stopped beating, she transmigrated into the tragic novel she'd written herself.
Looking at the assembled court officials before her, she realized she'd become Jiang Yizhi, the vicious supporting female character she'd written without putting much thought into her.
There was only one way to leave this world:
Rewrite the tragic bad ending for the male and female leads.
Being forced to rewrite her own story was agonizing, but she did as she was told.
And so Jiang Yizhi became love's bodyguard, vowing to clear every obstacle from her son's and daughter's road to romance, even if it cost her life.
Before her leads had even met, she traveled a thousand miles to the heroine and casually remarked, "Have I ever told you about my imperial uncle? Oh, he's so handsome, elegant, charming, and debonair!"
When an outsider's interference was about to drive a wedge between them, she leaped in to defend him. "That's not what happened! My imperial uncle would hold an umbrella over a snail. He would never do such a thing!"
When they were giving each other the silent treatment because neither of them knew how to speak up, she immediately found the heroine and presented her with a lavish gift she'd spent a fortune on. "Big Sis, my imperial uncle asked me to give this to you. You two really are made for each other!"
Everything was going just as she'd planned, until that day.
The biggest villain in the original story, a smiling, knife-wielding killer who showed no mercy, was walking beside her in peaceful harmony, sneaking glances at her now and then.
At last, he clasped his hands behind his back, looking a little awkward, and asked her as if he didn't care:
"Could it be that the Princess Royal has feelings for that Song Wudu?"
Jiang Yizhi froze. No?
Then, a moment later, she froze again. "Wait, what does that have to do with you?!"

Anyone with eyes could see how the Princess Royal made things difficult for Minister Lu, but he remained completely indifferent toward Jiang Yizhi.
One day, perhaps he'd gotten in her way. At any rate, she stormed over to him.
Lu Yunsheng waited patiently for her to speak, but after a long while, all Jiang Yizhi managed to choke out was:
"You're insane."
He said nothing, only smiled and let it pass.
Time passed. Later, Jiang Yizhi saw Lu Yunsheng sitting before her, pale-faced.
The blood on his clothes hadn't even dried before fresh red blood began seeping through again.
Feeling sorry for him, Jiang Yizhi wanted to reach out and touch the bloodstains, to ask if he was in pain.
But he dodged her hand. She heard Lu Yunsheng say that she was dirty.
Tears fell onto her clothes, mixing with the blood because they were so close.
Jiang Yizhi didn't know whether she was crying because she felt sorry for him or because she couldn't believe what he'd said. "Are you insane..."
Lu Yunsheng used the back of his finger to wipe away her tears, smiling just as he had before.
He acted as if everything were calm and effortless, but his voice was weak:
"Am I insane again?"
Reading Notes:
1. Five-year age gap.
2. The plot mostly exists to serve the romance. The political scheming is basically just children playing house.
