[Working hard to build up a backlog, starting when the collection count reaches 1,500]
8472 was a white blood cell. His greatest regret was that after he differentiated, his brain stopped working before he ever got to fight a virus for real.
Then, by chance, he became Nekoma's new first-year, Koikawa Yukei, and heard a certain rooster-haired volleyball club member's blood-fueled recruitment speech.
Blood!
Cells!!
The brain!!!
Koikawa Yukei: Password confirmed!!!
"Rooster-haired senpai, please let me join!!!"
Kuroo's temple twitched. "That was rude, but you have a good eye. Welcome to the volleyball club, classmate. What position do you play?"
Koikawa Yukei smiled innocently. "The position that lets me kill every last one of our enemies!"
Kuroo fell silent, then said against his conscience, "Great, Kenma! We've got an ace who's been steadily developing from zero!"
Kenma: ...
*
White Blood Cell Rule Number One: Remove aging red blood cells to prevent blocked blood vessels.
So when faced with a useless upperclassman who maliciously bullied his juniors...
Koikawa Yukei launched a powerful spike. "You can't even receive a spike from humble little me, and you still have the nerve to call yourself captain? Hurry up and hand the position over to our esteemed brain!"
The useless upperclassmen: Who the hell can receive a brutal spike traveling at 120 km/h?!
Kenma, the Esteemed Brain: *eyes go dark*
*
White Blood Cell Rule Number Two: Patrol the bloodstream and expel foreign invaders.
So when faced with an opponent's spike getting past the blocks...
Koikawa Yukei threw himself into the save, heedless of the consequences. "Even if it costs me my life, I won't let any filthy bacteria invade Nekoma's bloodstream!!"
The opponents: Damn it! Ref, I want to report Nekoma! They have two liberos on the court! That's against the rules!!
Kuroo: *plan successful*
*
White Blood Cell Rule Number Three: To keep the brain functioning properly, you have to clear away every obstacle!
So when facing powerful schools from all over the country at the national tournament...
Koikawa Yukei leaped into the air and slammed down a devastating spike, unleashing overwhelming, unstoppable power to tear through the opponents' defense.
"I'm a white blood cell! No matter how powerful the viruses on the other side of the net are, I'll take you all out to keep the blood flowing without end!!"
Kenma: He's a full-blown zealot now, isn't he? Before I call 110, is there anything you want to say, Leader?
Kuroo, the Leader: *sweating buckets*
*
Bonus scene:
As a former white blood cell, Koikawa Yukei took great care to stay healthy.
He was especially particular about personal hygiene: disinfecting, cleaning, protecting... He'd leave no opening for viruses to exploit!
During a joint training camp, Sakusa, the famously fastidious player, remarked, "Koikawa, you should come to Itachiyama."
P.S.:
1. The protagonist is based on the white blood cell from Cells at Work! The story will touch on a little biology and cell science. The author isn't a professional, so please point out any mistakes in the comments!
2. The timeline is when Kuroo is in his second year and hasn't become captain yet. The male lead is in the same year as Kenma.
3. The male lead is a genuine single-celled organism: a ferocious genius ace with a strong urge to kill, in a sense, and a highly aggressive style. Apart from the Dumpster Battle, he won't lose any official matches, and Nekoma will win the national championship.
4. The pairing hasn't been decided. This is an impassioned story written after watching the movie, to make my dream of Nekoma's victory come true. I haven't decided who the pairing will be, either.
Premise: Fear no obstacles; strive for the summit.
