After the Little Mute Lost His Memory

When he woke, his bedside was crowded with people. They were supposedly the witnesses to his fall, along with several relatives who had come from afar to see how he was doing.

The man who claimed to be his second brother said, "Lost your memory? Good. You deserved that fall."

The man who claimed to be his third brother said, "What goes around comes around. Serves you right!"

He may be mute, but that doesn't mean he's deaf.

His relatives came and went in a hurry, and not one of his classmates spared him a word of concern.

In that instant, Lin Jin imagined a tragic backstory for himself.

Fortunately, amid all the schadenfreude in the room, there was one person who felt sorry for him.

After everyone else had left, Xie Ningyun, heir to the Marquis of Zhenbei, stayed behind to apply medicine to his wounds.

The cool ointment touched Lin Jin's hand. He looked up at that exquisitely beautiful face.

Though Xie Ningyun looked aloof, his touch was gentle.

Xie Ningyun couldn't understand why the little mute, who had just been fighting him for the ball with a polo mallet and seemed ready to knock him off his horse, had suddenly changed his tune.

Xie Ningyun had only stayed to apply medicine at his friend Lin Fengzhi's request, so he firmly refused. "No."

Though he seemed a little cold, whenever Lin Jin asked him for help, all he had to do was hold and hug him, then mouth: Help me.

And Xie Ningyun would grant his every wish.

Lin Jin was very pleased with this powerful ally.

But when midsummer came, the academy went on break.

Lin Jin returned to the Chancellor's residence in Linjing.

There he found his three older brothers, now government officials, kneeling together in the courtyard while their mother scolded them for failing to report his fall from his horse.

Then his stern-looking father stepped forward, pulled him into his arms, and wept. "My dear Jinjin, you've suffered so much. From now on, you can fight with other young masters all you want, and bully whichever brother you like. Your mother and I will never send you to an academy you don't want to attend again..."

Wasn't he supposed to be a poor, unloved mute?

At first, I heard this guy was a menace. And that wasn't all. When I got to know him, he seemed to have no sense of boundaries at all. No wonder everyone hated him.

His muteness was caused by something that happened later in life. The reason will be revealed as the story unfolds, and he will recover later on.
