The wolf clan ruled the beastfolk world for a thousand years, with the third-generation Wolf King, Nan Ciyue, held in the highest regard.
When the world was thrown into turmoil, Nan Ciyue sacrificed himself to bring peace and unity.
A hundred years later, Nan Ciyue awakens as a half-beast, his body plagued by illness. With snowy white, fluffy wolf ears and a tail, he makes a conspicuous sight wherever he goes. Although he looks almost exactly as he did before, the beastfolk all avoid him.
As time passes, the balance of power among the clans shifts, and half-beasts become the lowest of the low. Looking so much like the third-generation Wolf King makes him an even bigger liability.
Nan Ciyue: I died for nothing.

As the wolf clan's prophesied next Wolf King, Bei Chengye grew up by Nan Ciyue's side. His respect and admiration eventually turned to love, but before he could confess his feelings, Nan Ciyue died.
Bei Chengye went mad, and for a hundred years his moods swung wildly.
Various factions repeatedly sent him substitutes for Nan Ciyue in hopes of currying favor with the new king. When the nth half-beast who looked just like Nan Ciyue appeared, he was unsurprisingly given an order to be hunted down.
Nan Ciyue is as elusive as a dragon, and the assassins all come up empty-handed. After a long time, Bei Chengye finally captures the impostor himself. He should have humiliated and killed him, but then he realizes that this despicable, lowly half-beast might actually be... the real thing...
Reading guide:
· Monogamous pairing, both pure, happy ending. Ye and Yue are each other's one and only, with mutual feelings.
· The bottom has a white-moonlight filter on the top, and is the focus of unrequited love.
· The top behaves terribly for a while because he really has gone mad.
· An extremely high dose of bottom-worship, a moderate dose of top-worship, with a dark and obsessive kink. I like writing DT.
