For the first seventeen years of his life, Shen Ruyi had everything go his way. As the legitimate eldest son of the Shen family, he was spoiled and domineering. Apart from his twin younger brother, Shen Shu, who was always at odds with him, he thought he was the heaven-blessed hero of a storybook.
But as he grew older, Shen Ruyi realized he and his full brother had nothing in common. They had been born less than half an hour apart, so how could they be so completely different?
Then one day, a boy who looked exactly like Shen Shu arrived at their home, holding a jade pendant. His arrival shattered Shen Ruyi's easy life.
He wasn't the young master of the Shen family at all, and Shen Shu wasn't his twin brother. He was the cat in one of those stories he'd read in the playbooks, the ones about a cat being switched for the crown prince!
The Shen couple brought their real son, Shen Yu, home. Out of consideration for their years of affection, they continued to keep Shen Ruyi in the household. But his life became much harder. He had made plenty of enemies as a spoiled young master, and now they retaliated even more harshly.
It was hard to go from luxury to simplicity. To maintain his outward appearance of success, Shen Ruyi had no choice but to seek help from all sorts of people, and he was willing to do anything...
He thought he could secure his place in the world by scheming with sincerity, but he didn't know that one wrong step would send him plummeting into an abyss. Shen Yu was dismissed from office and exiled, and the newly appointed top scholar became a prisoner hated by all. Before long, news came from the border that he had died in a sea of flames, leaving no remains.
When he saw that familiar figure again, he lifted the person's mask, only to find a completely unfamiliar face. The stranger raised the corners of their mouth slightly and said, "I am Helan Ying. May I ask your surname, young master?"
·I probably click on every chapter myself. When I can't sleep, I read, but I fall asleep halfway through.
·I'm writing this for fun. Whether the characters go out of character or the logic is a mess, I'm going to finish it.
·Completely fictional setting. The love-triangle drama is great.
·How do you write historical danmei while skipping the political scheming? I have no idea! So you'll see plenty of childish stuff.
·This is writing practice. I want to see if I can actually write a complete novel.
